Newbury Races

I had never been to the races before, but on the 18th of September I went along with Dan's family to Newbury for an amazing day out. I didn't know what to expect (or how to bet), but loved every minute of it. Everywhere had such an excitable atmosphere, as it seemed everyone was waiting on edge to find out whether they had either won or lost no doubt a huge amount of money. The hopeful anticipation before the race, and the chance of luck being on your side was what made it so enjoyable, and certainly addictive once you had experienced a win.

The hardest part for me was deciding what to wear, as it was definitely an occasion to dress up for. I wanted to go for something bright and floral to suit the joyful atmosphere of the Newbury Races, and managed to find the perfect dress from Misguided for only £25.

The dress was amazing quality and such good value for money, exactly what I wanted.

Seeing as I had no idea how to bet I decided to randomly pick the names of the horses which stood out to me, and hoped that they would win. I have to admit this did not go so well. However I'm not entirely sure that there is a correct way of betting, I think it's all down to luck. And luckily I did eventually manage to win £7 on a horse named 'Cotai Glory'...RESULT.

The event was brought to an end by Mark Ronson performing on stage. The atmosphere was great and he managed to get everyone dancing by playing loads of different remixes. He did an incredible DJ set, combining lots of old school songs together with new ones, and finished with a dedication to Amy Winehouse (whose Album 'Back to Black' he produced). It was so much fun, and a perfect way to top off the day.

It was an incredible day out, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed betting after getting used to it. Spending the whole day with Dan's family was lovely, and it was definitely a great event for bringing everyone together, because it's something that everyone can enjoy and take part in! I'm certainly looking forward to going again next year, and hopefully then I can up my game and win more than £7...
